An economic impact assessment was commissioned by a cross-section of concerned companies and groups in the food and nutrition industry, named the European Health Claims Alliance (EHCA), which coordinated the signing of the health claims letter to the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso.
As no official impact assessment of the EU's Nutrition and Health Claims Regulation existed, EHCA decided to commission an independent expert, Graham Brookes, Managing Director of GBC Ltd, to draft the report.
The economic impact assessment is intended as a basis for further reflection and assessment of the current approach to article 13.1 of the regulation. Given the limited time and resources available, the report focuses on the food supplement sector.
